World-class education in one of the world's most livable countries
New Zealand is consistently ranked among the world's most peaceful, safe, and livable nations. All eight of its universities are ranked in the top 500 globally, and the country's immigration system is transparent and welcoming to international graduates. A post-study open work visa of up to 3 years lets graduates gain local experience and transition to skilled migrant residency. Indian students thrive here — the country has strong ties with South Asian communities and an inclusive, multicultural environment.

Immigration
New Zealand Student Visa Process
1
Receive Offer of Place (LoA)
Get your unconditional offer letter from a New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) recognized institution. Pay a tuition deposit as required — many universities require 50% upfront with the visa application.
2
Apply for Student Visa Online (INZ)
Apply online via Immigration New Zealand's (INZ) online portal. Documents required: offer letter, proof of funds (NZD 15,000 per year minimum), health insurance, passport, police clearance certificate (PCC from India), and chest X-ray certificate for stays over 12 months.
3
Medical Examination (if required)
Students staying more than 12 months must complete an upfront medical with an INZ-approved physician. This includes a chest X-ray for TB screening. Apply for your medical panel clearance via the eMedical system. Processing is typically 1–2 weeks.
4
Arrive and Enrol
Your student visa is stamped in your passport before departure. On arrival, clear NZ customs, activate your student ID, and register for healthcare through your university or a local GP. International students are eligible for ACC (accident compensation) coverage from day one.
5
Post-Study Work Visa (PSWV)
After completing a full-time, Level 7+ qualification of at least 2 years at a New Zealand institution, apply for a 3-year Post-Study Work Visa. This open work visa lets you work for any employer. After gaining NZ work experience, apply for the Skilled Migrant Category residency.

New Zealand is generally 15–25% cheaper than Australia in terms of tuition fees. Living costs in cities like Dunedin, Christchurch, and Hamilton are significantly lower than Sydney or Melbourne. Auckland is the exception — it rivals Australian cities in cost. Overall, NZ is one of the more affordable English-speaking destinations.
The Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) is New Zealand's main points-based PR pathway. Points are awarded for job offers, qualifications, work experience, and age. NZ graduates with a job offer in a skilled occupation can typically gather enough points for PR within 1–3 years post-graduation. New Zealand also has the Green List — a list of priority occupations (nurses, engineers, teachers, ICT) with direct PR pathways for qualified workers.
