Canada is consistently ranked one of the best countries for quality of life, safety, and multiculturalism — making it one of the most popular destinations for Indian students seeking not just a degree, but a new life. The cost of studying and living is significantly lower than the USA or UK.
Eligible graduates may qualify for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), but graduation from a designated institution alone does not guarantee eligibility. Program, application-date, language and other criteria can apply, and a work permit does not guarantee permanent residence. Review current IRCC eligibility before choosing a programme.
Canada's universities are globally recognised, particularly in engineering, business, and AI research. Toronto and Montreal have emerged as major tech and startup hubs rivalling Silicon Valley.

IRCC’s personalized online checklist is authoritative. A Provincial/Territorial Attestation Letter (PAL/TAL) is needed in most cases; Quebec applicants generally need a CAQ.
Common items to prepare
Letter of Acceptance from the designated learning institution
PAL/TAL in most cases, or Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) for Quebec
Valid passport/travel document and required photos
Proof of funds for tuition, living costs and travel, without relying on work in Canada
Letter of explanation; local visa-office documents, medical exam or police certificate if required
Current planning figure: For applications on or after 1 September 2026, a single applicant outside Quebec must show CAD $23,448 for first-year living expenses, in addition to tuition and transportation. Quebec has different rules; amounts are updated periodically.

Generally yes — tuition is 30–50% lower than comparable US private universities, and living costs outside Toronto and Vancouver are significantly lower than London or New York. The CAD-INR exchange rate also makes it more manageable than USD or GBP.
Most universities accept IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or Duolingo. The study permit itself doesn't require an English test — only your university admission does. Minimum IELTS is typically 6.0–6.5 for UG and 6.5–7.0 for PG programmes.
